SEOR Event
The South Eastern Ontario Region of the Newfoundland Dog Club of Canada has had a busy year already. We started the year with our McLean Maple Syrup festival where the dogs earn their corn and veggies for our annual Newfie corn roast, BBQ and fun day on September 12, 2009.
On April 5, 2009 our club held its first control seminar of the year with our second one of the year upcoming on August 9, 2009. We had a full seminar of 17 dogs entered that day. The members and their dogs had a fun day training and working together.
On May 3 and 4, 2009 we held our first Draft seminar of the year with our second one coming up on September 26 and 27, 2009. We had 5 intermediates and 7 beginners. It was a weekend of great bonding and learning. Dogs that had never seen a cart before were pulling and taking passengers by the end. Our intermediates fine tuned their carting and learned even more.
May 18 was our annual Bethany parade. We had 16 dogs and puppies in attendance. Everyone came out to have a nice walk and show off our dogs during the parade which was followed by a picnic. We had many dogs and owners in attendance. Some dogs carted and others were just out to walk along and greet people along the route, we had lots of puppies as well as adult Newfies. We even won first prize for our entry in the parade.
June 7, 2009 was our first water seminar, the Take it. As usual we have another full set of seminars with 12 dogs registered in each. This seminar gets everyone started with the key aspects of water work, the take and release. Everyone leaves the seminar with the needed knowledge to prepare for our next water seminar coming up June 27 and 28, 2009 that is in water. They will be following them up with our third water seminar on July 18 and 19, 2009 they will be fine tuning and getting test ready in the final water seminar of the year.
Everyone will spend the year getting ready for the Water test on August 23, 2009 and the Draft test on October 18, 2009. Members are already planning their extra training times so they can be ready to strut their stuff at the tests.
