NDCC Funday 2009

Rain, Rain go away, come again another day!  Summer in southern Ontario hasn't arrived yet, we are stuck in a cool, wet spring and yearning for the dog days of summer.

The NDCC Fun Day hosted by the Central Ontario Region was held on Sunday, July 26 at the home of Martin and Angie De Bruyn, outside of Acton.  Grey skies and dark clouds greeted us, but the festivities began with games for the dogs and their owners.  They all raced with dog cookies on spoons, dogs in tow, blindfolded owners had to pick out their dog from a pack and the Newfs even bobbed for wieners.

After a couple of games the skies opened and everyone made a mad dash for the garage.  There was a benefit to the rain storm, in those close quarters, everyone talked to the person next to them and before it ended you had made new friends.

As the rain slowed down, the barbecue was lit, the games resumed and the dessert table was set up in Angie's kitchen. (can't take a chance on getting the sweets wet).  We all enjoyed the hot dogs and hamburgers cooked under an umbrella by Darren Shoemaker and John Baker.  As always, the desserts are the hit of the day, with everyone asking who made that and can I get the recipe.

Some plans we had for the afternoon had to be cancelled, but we did have a raffle for two handmade Newf Plant Hangers (won by Angie) made by Michael Coffey, raised $55.00 for the Benevolent Fund.

Many thanks, to Martin and Angie for the use of their grounds and home.  To Brenda Van Stone for looking after the games this year, to those who donated prizes and to everyone who brought the yummy desserts, thank you, we can't do it without you.
